Our Story

Pete Nikolaison the name Nikolaison is widely known and highly respected in Wairarapa photography. Masterton born and bred Pete Nikolaison, son of the late George, continues the tradition started by his father of creating finest quality photographic images. Pete has over 40 years of experience to draw on and a proven reputation. His publications Nikolaison & Son Masterton Then & Now, Wairarapa Place and People and calendars attest to the on-going popularity of his work.

Pete began learning the craft under George’s (Ted) tutelage while at school and working with him in the shop afternoons and weekends.
After leaving college in 1975 Pete began his commercial photographic life with daily paper The Wairarapa Times-Age. Pete’s interest in travel took him overseas for six years where he continued to hone his skills and gain experience in very different light conditions to those in New Zealand.
Pete returned to Masterton in 1984. Following a period working back at the family business he branched out on his own and now operates a successful and growing business employing 7 staff.
